Mughsail is the most dramatic coastal scenery near Salalah, 35 km west of the city. The wide bay of white sand is backed by dramatic limestone cliffs, and the natural blowholes in the rocky shelf at the western end shoot seawater high into the air when the surf is strong enough. The whole area is pleasantly uncrowded outside of the khareef season.
The cliffs behind the beach lead up to a viewpoint with panoramic views of the coast stretching west toward the Yemeni border. The road continues beyond Mughsail along increasingly wild coastline — even in good weather, sense the remoteness that sets in quickly once you leave Salalah's urban fringe. The beach itself is good for swimming outside of monsoon season; during the khareef the sea is rough. Facilities are minimal — bring food and water.
