Sumhuram Archaeological Park preserves the ruins of the ancient port at Khor Rori, one of the key sites connected with Dhofar's frankincense trade. The settlement flourished from the 3rd century BCE into late antiquity, when incense from southern Arabia moved by sea toward India, the Mediterranean, and East Africa.
The site is east of Salalah near Taqah, so it works best as part of a day trip with Taqah Fort and Wadi Darbat. The ruins are exposed and shade is limited; go early if the weather is hot.
