Devi Gali

Devi Gali is a forested village and viewpoint about four kilometres west of Hajira, set on a ridgeline in the pine-covered hills of Poonch District. Also known locally as Shaheed Gali, it is one of the more accessible beauty spots in the immediate area and sees a steady trickle of domestic visitors, particularly in summer.

The appeal is straightforward: the ridge offers good views across the valleys toward the hills on the far side, the forest is dense enough to provide genuine shade in summer heat, and the air is noticeably cooler than in the towns below. There are no formal facilities — just the landscape and the road — so bring water and food. The drive or walk out from Hajira takes you through some of the most attractive scenery in the district.

A story
Devi Gali takes its name from an older, pre-partition era when the area was shared Hindu and Muslim territory. The name — combining the Sanskrit "devi" (goddess) with the Kashmiri "gali" (mountain pass) — is a small linguistic fossil from a time before the Line of Control divided this landscape and its people.
