Hajira's central bazaar is the commercial and social heart of the tehsil. It is a small but functional market — hardware, fabric, basic groceries, a few pharmacies — that serves the surrounding villages as much as the town itself. On market days, traders and farmers come in from the hills, and the streets become a good deal more animated.
A handful of simple restaurants and dhabas cluster around the bazaar, serving the standard repertoire of northern Pakistani cooking: roti with daal, karahi gosht cooked in a blackened wok, and rice dishes. Prices are low and the food is straightforward. This is not a place with a culinary scene, but after a day in the hills, a bowl of daal and hot roti is exactly right.
