Hajira Tehsil Office

The tehsil office is the administrative centre for Hajira's district — a government building of the kind that anchors small Pakistani hill towns and is worth noting for practical as well as historical reasons. Foreign travellers are required to register with local authorities before travelling in border areas of Azad Kashmir; the tehsil office or the local police station adjacent to it is where this registration takes place.

The building itself is modest, but its presence concentrates much of official Hajira life in one corner of the town. Local residents come here for land records, civil documentation, and dealings with government — the bureaucratic rhythm of a small Pakistani town is visible here as nowhere else. The surrounding streets have the concentrated activity of a government precinct: photocopiers, notary services, a few teahouses where people wait.
