Islamabad's grid makes getting around easier than in any other Pakistani city, but the distances between the sectors are large and walking long stretches in summer is uncomfortable. The Metrobus runs a fast, air-conditioned line on a dedicated busway from the Pakistan Secretariat in central Islamabad south to Rawalpindi via Faizabad — useful for trips between the twin cities. Local buses cover the sectors but are not signposted in English.
Careem and inDriver ride-hailing apps work well and are the easiest option for most visitors. A trip between sectors costs Rs 200–500. Yellow taxis are also available; agree the price before you set off. Rental cars are best taken with a driver (a common arrangement); self-driving in Pakistan is not recommended.
The Margalla Hills trails are reachable by Careem to the trailheads at Trail 3, Trail 5 and Saidpur Village.
