The Pir Sohawa road climbs from Daman-e-Koh to the crest of the Margalla Hills, where it ends in a cluster of restaurants and tea houses at around 1,170 metres. The Monal Restaurant, perched on the cliff edge, is the most famous — locals come at sunset to watch the lights of Islamabad come on across the plain below.
The drive up is about thirty minutes by Careem from central Islamabad. It is cool in the evening even when the city is sweltering, which makes it a standard summer escape. The road continues beyond the restaurants to the village of Talhar on the north side of the ridge.
