Shogran

Shogran is a pine-covered plateau at around 2,400 metres, reached by a steep jeep track from Kiwai on the valley floor. The plateau itself is a broad, gently rolling meadow edged with conifers and scattered with tourist bungalows; from the ridge at the northern end, on clear days the views stretch to the snow-covered peaks above Naran and beyond. It's a quieter and prettier base than Naran for anyone not focused on Babusar Pass.

The main reason to come to Shogran is the trek to Siri Paye meadows, which lies another hour or so higher up the mountain. The path from Shogran is straightforward and well-worn, climbing through forest before emerging onto open alpine meadow with views of Malika Parbat and the Makra massif. Horses can be hired at Shogran for those who'd rather ride than walk. The bungalows at Shogran fill up on summer weekends — book ahead or arrive midweek to have the meadows to yourself.
