Kaghan Valley rewards visitors who treat it as more than a drive-through. The 155-kilometre valley follows the Kunhar River from Balakot in the south up to Babusar Pass at 4,170 metres, with pine forests giving way to alpine meadows and then bare scree and snow. Most visitors base themselves in Naran and make day trips to Lake Saiful Muluk and the pass, but the valley has enough variety — trekking, fishing, riding, or simply sitting in meadows above the treeline — to hold attention for a week or more.
The valley is only accessible between roughly May and September. Above Naran, the road to Babusar Pass remains snow-blocked into late June most years, and the pass itself sometimes stays closed until July. Timing matters: come in July or August for the best wildflower meadows; come in late September for cooler temperatures and thinning crowds before the season ends.
