Siri Paye Meadows

Siri Paye is a high alpine meadow above Shogran, reached by a one- to two-hour trek or horse ride from the plateau below. At around 3,000 metres, it sits above the treeline on the southern flank of Makra Peak, and on clear days the panorama across the valley takes in a long stretch of snow-covered peaks. In late June and July, the meadow is carpeted with wildflowers — blue gentians, yellow buttercups, and patches of wild strawberry near the snowmelt streams.

The name means "Siri pasture" in the local dialect, and the meadow is still used as summer grazing land by Gujjar nomads who bring their livestock up from the valley each spring. Their temporary camps of woven grass huts and corrals of cattle add life to the landscape and are generally welcoming to visitors. The trek from Shogran is the standard approach; some visitors continue on foot to Makra Peak summit (3,885m) for a full-day outing, but this requires more experience and ideally a local guide.
