Port Grand is a waterfront food and entertainment complex built along a stretch of the old Native Jetty Bridge, five minutes from downtown. It was developed in the early 2010s as a rare attempt to give Karachi's residents a safe, managed public space by the sea. The result is a long promenade lined with restaurants, cafes, and food stalls, with views across the harbour to the cranes and container ships of the port beyond.
The setting is better than any individual restaurant here, and that is roughly the right way to approach it: come for an evening stroll and a meal, not for any single culinary experience. It is busiest on weekend evenings when the city's middle class comes to eat chaat, grilled fish, and ice cream in the relatively cool sea breeze. There is an entry fee, which keeps the crowds manageable compared to the open beaches. For visitors staying in the city centre it is one of the more pleasant ways to spend an evening.
