Getting Around

Uber and Careem are the easiest way to move around Lahore for most foreign visitors — both apps work well, drivers usually know their way, and fares are predictable. Cash and card payments are both accepted.

Auto-rickshaws are everywhere. They are cheap and useful for short hops in the Walled City and along the Mall, but agree the price before you get in or you will overpay. The yellow CNG-powered three-wheelers are common.

The Lahore Metro (the orange-and-blue elevated line) opened in 2018 and runs from Ali Town to Dera Gujran, useful for the Walled City stops (MAO College, Bhati Chowk, Anarkali). The Speedo BRT system also covers much of the city. Both are clean and well-maintained but signage is largely in Urdu.

Walking is the only sensible way to see the Walled City — its narrow lanes are not built for vehicles. For everything else, take the ride-hailing apps. Traffic is heavy from 8 to 10 a.m. and 5 to 8 p.m.; allow extra time at those hours.
