Hiran Minar

Mughal hunting complex at Sheikhupura, built around an emperor's memorial to a pet antelope.

Hiran Minar is one of the strangest and most memorable Mughal excursions from Lahore. Built at Sheikhupura under Emperor Jahangir, the complex combines a tall memorial tower for the emperor's beloved antelope with a large water tank and pavilion reached by a causeway.

The story can sound whimsical, but the architecture is serious: a royal hunting landscape turned into a carefully staged monument of water, symmetry, and imperial leisure. It is a good half-day trip for anyone who has already seen Lahore Fort and wants Mughal architecture in a quieter, more open setting.
