Lahore Museum

South Asia's oldest museum, featured in Kipling's Kim

Address Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam (The Mall)

One of the oldest and largest museums in South Asia, established in 1894 on the Mall Road. Rudyard Kipling's father, John Lockwood Kipling, was one of the early curators; the museum and its surroundings feature in the opening chapters of Kim. The collection is strong on Gandhara Buddhist sculpture, Mughal miniatures, and Indus Valley artefacts. The Zamzama ("Kim's Gun") cannon stands outside the main entrance.
