Eating Out

Rawalpindi is one of the better cities in Pakistan for street food. The old city bazaars double as food streets after dark, with vendors grilling seekh kebabs over coal, ladling out nihari from enormous pots, and serving up platters of karahi gosht that have been simmering since early morning. The food is cheap, often excellent, and eaten standing up.

Pakistani cuisine here means Punjabi cooking at its most direct: heavy on meat, ghee, and spice. Pulao, mutton karahi, and brain masala are staples. Vegetarians will find limited options but not zero — daal, channa, and sabzi dishes appear on most menus.
