Rawalpindi is a transport hub for northern Pakistan. Murree, the most popular hill station in the area, is about an hour's drive into the mountains and makes an easy day trip or overnight excursion. The city also serves as a jumping-off point for Azad Kashmir, the Northern Areas (Gilgit-Baltistan), and the tribal regions.
