The vast majority of travellers passing through Kalibo are headed to Boracay, the small island four kilometres off the northwest tip of Panay famous for its long white beach. The standard route is a 90-minute van transfer from Kalibo to Caticlan, a 15-minute pumpboat ride to Boracay, and a tricycle along the island. Boracay can be done as a long day trip but is much better as an overnight (or week).
Malay, the mainland municipality opposite Boracay, has its own beaches and a quieter rhythm if you want a beach without the crowds. Bakhawan Eco-Park on the coast just outside Kalibo is closer and easier — see the things-to-do listing. For deeper local culture, the towns of Numancia (5 km west) and Lezo (10 km west) are the centres of the piña weaving industry and are easy half-day visits by tricycle or van.
