There is no airport. Coda Lines and Ohayami Trans run direct overnight buses from Manila to Banaue, leaving in the early evening and arriving around 6 a.m. — about nine hours, with a stop or two. Tickets are best booked a day or two in advance during high season. Daytime services exist but the views are wasted in daylight only if you sleep, and the night bus saves a hotel night.
The roads in the Cordillera are switchback mountain routes and the last few hours are slow even with a good driver. From Banaue to Sagada is a further three to four hours by jeepney, with a change at Bontoc. Most travellers combine Banaue and Sagada in a single trip — the road between them, climbing over Mount Polis at 1,900 metres, is one of the most spectacular drives in the Philippines.
Getting to Batad from Banaue town requires a tricycle or jeepney to the saddle (about an hour, the road is paved most of the way) then a 20-40 minute walk down. Tricycle drivers wait at the saddle for the trip back.
