Cebu City's oldest and largest public market, established in the early American colonial period and named for the charcoal (carbon in local dialect) once sold here. Today it sprawls across several blocks near the old port, selling tropical fruit, vegetables, dried fish, cheap clothing, herbs, and flowers. The dried mango and tablea (cacao tablets) sections are particularly good for food souvenirs. It's crowded, noisy, and not tourist-polished — which is the point. Go in the morning when produce is freshest. Keep an eye on your valuables.
