Mabinay

Inland Negros municipality known for caves, springs, and rough-edged limestone adventure.

Mabinay is the cave country of central Negros, a hill municipality on the road between Dumaguete and Bacolod. The town itself is plain, but the limestone around it is riddled with caves, underground rivers, bat colonies, and cold springs. It is worth the trip if you want an active day inland rather than another beach or city stop.

The easy cave visits are around Bulwang, where guides take beginners through Panligawan, Pandalihan, and Crystal Cave. Serious cavers come for longer systems such as Odloman and Cayaso, but those need proper local advice, gear, and conditions that suit the route. Finish with a swim at Mabinay Spring, especially if you have spent the morning sweating through karst.

Getting There

Mabinay sits on the cross-island road between Dumaguete and Bacolod. Buses run between the two cities and pass through Mabinay; from Dumaguete the ride is usually around two to three hours, depending on stops and road conditions.

The road is scenic but winding. If you are self-driving or hiring a motorbike, avoid doing the hill sections after dark.
