Zamboanga's appeal is its layered, multicultural character. The Spanish fort, the cathedral, the pink-sand island, and the harbour full of vinta sailboats are the unmissable sights — but it is the everyday mix of Catholic, Muslim, and Chinese life on the streets, and the Chavacano language spoken nowhere else in Asia, that make a visit memorable.
