The Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, usually just called the Zamboanga Cathedral, is the seat of the Archdiocese of Zamboanga. It stands a few blocks inland from Fort Pilar on Pilar Street, a 20th-century white concrete neo-Gothic building with twin towers, replacing several earlier Spanish-era churches that were destroyed in earthquakes and wars.
The interior is calm and well-kept — stained glass, painted side chapels, a tall central nave. It is the most active Catholic church in town and the focus of major feast days, particularly the November Fiesta Pilar week. Worth stepping inside for half an hour, especially in late afternoon when the light comes through the rose window above the entrance.
