King Fahd's Fountain

Tallest fountain in the world — 312 metres of Red Sea water

The world's tallest fountain, projecting Red Sea water 312 metres into the air from a pool off the central Corniche. The fountain has been running, on and off, since 1985 — a gift to the city from King Fahd — and the column of white spray is visible from every part of central Jeddah.

The fountain runs every night from sunset to around midnight, and the best vantage point is the Hassan Enany Mosque viewpoint or any of the corniche restaurants south of it. There is no entrance fee — you watch from outside.

A story
The fountain is fed by sea water — not fresh — pumped from the Red Sea at a rate of 625 litres a second. It is taller than the Eiffel Tower and the spray takes about 30 seconds to reach the ground. The pumps are off in high winds to avoid soaking traffic on the corniche road.
