A vast private museum built by Sheikh Abdul Raouf Khalil in a deliberate pastiche of Hijazi architecture. The building itself — coral-stone walls, intricate roshan windows, tall towers — is a study in old Jeddah construction. Inside, the collection is organised across hundreds of rooms covering Islamic art, manuscripts, pilgrim routes, Saudi tribal heritage, and pre-Islamic Arabia.
The scale is overwhelming; entire halls are devoted to single themes. Allow at least three hours. The museum is south of the city centre and best reached by taxi. Foreigners pay a higher entry fee.
