Jeddah's pleasures are concentrated in two long strips: the UNESCO-listed Al Balad old town near the harbour, with its coral-stone tower houses and rowdy souks; and the 35 km Corniche along the Red Sea, lit up at night with sculptures, restaurants, and the world's tallest fountain. A weekend covers both comfortably. Outside the city, the diving on the Red Sea reefs is some of the best on earth.
