Mosque of Al-Ghamama

One of Medina's most historically significant small mosques, Al-Ghamama sits a short walk west of the Prophet's Mosque on a site where Muhammad is said to have led Eid prayers — the earliest Eid congregation in Islamic history. The name means "the cloud": according to tradition, a cloud appeared to shade the Prophet while he prayed here under the open sky, a story reflected in the white dome that now crowns the building.

The current structure dates from the Ottoman period, rebuilt on the ancient site. It is modest in scale compared to the great mosque complexes of Medina, but its association with the early Eid prayers makes it an important stop for pilgrims retracing the footsteps of the Prophet's life in the city.
