2.28 Democratic Movement Memorial Park

Downtown memorial park marking Daegu's 1960 student democracy protest

2.28 Democratic Movement Memorial Park commemorates the student protest that began in Daegu on 28 February 1960. Hundreds of high-school students resisted orders to attend school on a Sunday and gathered against election manipulation and dictatorship, helping set the tone for the April Revolution that followed.

The park is small and central, so it is easiest to visit while walking downtown. It adds useful political context to Daegu's busy commercial core, especially if you are also visiting nearby Dongseongno or the city's other civic memorials.
