Gatbawi is one of the classic excursions from Daegu: a stone Buddha seated high on Palgongsan, famous for the flat stone on its head and for the steady stream of worshippers climbing to pray there. The route up is a real climb, with steps, forest, and mountain air replacing the city's traffic.
The reward is both religious and scenic. You get a close look at a beloved Korean Buddhist image and, on clear days, broad views over the ridges around Daegu; go early if you want a quieter ascent and bring shoes that can handle stone steps.
