Getting Around

The historic city centre is flat and compact — walking or cycling is the ideal way to explore. Bicycle rental is available from multiple shops near the bus terminal and accommodation areas; a day's rental costs around 10,000–15,000 won. The central sights (Daereungwon tombs, Cheomseongdae, Wolji Pond, Gyochon village, National Museum) can all be linked on a half-day cycle loop.

For Bulguksa temple and Seokguram grotto in the mountains, local bus 10 or 11 runs from near the city centre. Taxis are reasonably priced; a taxi from the city centre to Bulguksa takes about 20 minutes. City buses cover most areas of interest but require some local knowledge to navigate. The Gyeongju City Tour bus provides a loop service covering the main sights — useful for visitors with limited time.
