The largest tea factory in the Uva region, a few minutes' tuk-tuk ride above town on the road to Bandarawela. Tours run hourly through the day and walk you through the full process — withering, rolling, fermentation, drying, grading — in the actual working factory, not a mock-up. The smell is unforgettable. The shop at the end is reasonable rather than a trap.
The factory sits high on a ridge with a viewing terrace that looks out over Ella Gap and, on clear afternoons, all the way to the southern plains. Many visitors come for the view as much as the tour. Allow an hour for the visit; the tuk-tuk ride up takes about ten minutes from town.
