The Nuwara Eliya Post Office is one of the town's most handsome colonial buildings — a red-brick structure with a clock tower that stands opposite Victoria Park. Built in 1894 and still in active use, it represents the well-funded confidence of the British hill station at its peak. The building looks slightly transplanted from an English market town, which is precisely the point.
It is worth going inside to send a postcard or just to look at the interior fittings, which remain largely original. The post office is also a useful orientation point in the town centre — Victoria Park, the main market, and the road toward the racecourse all start nearby.
