Alishan Forest Railway Garage Park preserves locomotives and rolling stock from the mountain railway that made Chiayi famous. The narrow-gauge line was built for timber, then became one of Taiwan's classic travel experiences, climbing from the plains toward Alishan's forests.
The park is open-air and easy to combine with Hinoki Village. Even if you are not a rail obsessive, it gives Chiayi a sharper identity than another generic city museum would.
