Kenting has two distinct faces depending on season. October to April is the calmer, more pleasant time: temperatures hover around 22–28°C, the northeast monsoon brings some overcast days to the Pacific coast but usually leaves the western beaches clear, and the crowds are manageable. This is when birdwatchers come for the Grey-faced Buzzard migration (October) and the diving is at its most comfortable.
July and August are high season — beaches packed, hotel prices doubled, Kenting Street heaving every evening. If you want the full Taiwanese beach holiday experience, this is it; if you want space and peace, avoid it. Typhoon season runs June to October, and direct hits are infrequent but not rare. The Kenting Spring Scream music festival, held in April, draws thousands of music fans and makes accommodation very difficult to find.
