Arbob Palace is a grand Soviet-era complex outside Khujand, built as the headquarters of a collective farm and styled with more than a hint of St Petersburg classicism. Its columns, halls, and gardens feel unexpectedly theatrical in the Sughd countryside.
The palace also matters politically: Tajikistan's post-Soviet leadership history is tied to meetings held here during the early 1990s. It is worth the short trip from Khujand for architecture, photography, and a glimpse of how Soviet prestige architecture reached Central Asia.
