Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park

UNESCO-listed laterite ruin park from the defensive edge of old Sukhothai

Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park preserves one of the three historic towns in the UNESCO Sukhothai listing, alongside Sukhothai and Si Satchanalai. Its ruins run through the old walled city and the wooded Aranyik monastery zone outside the walls.

Laterite gives the park its texture. The walls, chedis, and temple platforms have a dark, rugged look, and the forest setting makes the outer zone feel more remote than it really is. Rent a bicycle if you can; the distances are too spread out for a casual stroll in the heat.
