Jomtien's bar scene is much quieter than Pattaya's — most of the action is on the beachfront road and the streets behind, with open-fronted bars looking out at the sea. Expect cheap Singha or Chang beer, simple sound systems, and a regulars' crowd of long-stay residents rather than weekenders.
For sunset, the beach bars on the Dongtan promenade are the natural choice — order a coconut or a beer, take a plastic chair, watch the boats come in. Further south on Jomtien Beach Road the bars cluster on the small lanes (sois) running back from the sea; Soi 5 and Soi 7 have the best concentration. Coffee culture has caught up too — half a dozen serious espresso bars cluster around Jomtien Soi 4, catering to the Russian and Scandinavian regulars who have made the area home.
