Tha Sadet Market

The Tha Sadet Market (also called the Indochina Market) is one of the best browsing markets in Isaan — a covered hall and surrounding stalls selling goods from Laos, Vietnam and China alongside Thai products. You will find Vietnamese rice wine, Lao textiles, rattan baskets, cheap electronics and the kind of miscellany that only exists at border markets where the supply chains are creative and the price negotiations vigorous.

The market is open daily and most active in the morning. It sits right on the riverside promenade, which makes combining a visit with a walk along the river easy. Cafe Viet, nearby in the market area, is good for Vietnamese coffee and a proper Vietnamese lunch — a reminder that Nong Khai's culinary world straddles three countries.
