The village of Arunothai, about 35 kilometres north of Chiang Dao near Pha Daeng National Park, is a Chinese ex-KMT Yunnanese settlement that has been here since the 1950s. The Tayong noodle shop in the village serves Yunnan-style noodles unlike anything else in the area — worth combining with a trip to the hot springs or waterfall further north. The village itself, with its Chinese-language signs and temple, is a curious and genuine piece of history.
