A long, relaxed stretch of sand just south of Hua Hin proper, backed by the distinctive Khao Takiab hill with its large standing Buddha and resident troop of macaques. The beach is noticeably quieter than Hua Hin's main strip, especially on weekdays, though Thai families fill it on weekends. The sand is wide and firm and the water calm, with waves rarely amounting to more than ripples. Loungers and umbrellas are available from the local vendors, and simple food stalls line the road behind the beach selling grilled seafood and som tam. A green songthaew (shared pickup truck) runs from Hua Hin market to Khao Takiab. Boat trips to Koh Singto and other small offshore islands can be arranged with the fishing boats at the south end. The hilltop temple, Wat Khao Takiab, is worth the short climb for wide views over the coast.
