Klai Kangwon Palace ("Far from Worries" in Thai) is the primary royal summer residence in Hua Hin, built in 1926 by King Vajiravudh and subsequently developed into the residence most associated with King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX). The palace grounds front directly onto the beach north of town.
The palace is not open to visitors when the royal family is in residence, but at other times the grounds can be visited. The architecture blends European neoclassical style with Thai detailing — an elegant result of the early 20th-century vogue for Western-influenced palatial design. The beachfront location, surrounded by tropical gardens, explains why the site was chosen in the first place.
