Denizli sits at the centre of the Lycos and Maeander valleys, surrounded by Greco-Roman ruins. The main day-trip targets are Pamukkale and Hierapolis (just to the north), Aphrodisias (100 km west, the most rewarding Roman site in the region), and Laodicea (a short drive from town). The lake town of Salda Gölü, with its white-sand beaches around a deep crater lake, is around 90 km east on the Burdur road and makes a good summer outing if you have wheels.
