The Hierapolis Archaeological Museum occupies three of the vaulted halls of the second-century Roman baths, which gives it one of the more atmospheric settings of any provincial museum in Turkey. The collection covers Hierapolis itself, neighbouring Laodicea and the Lycos valley, and includes reliefs from the Hierapolis theatre, sarcophagi from the necropolis, and small finds from local tombs.
The most striking pieces are the figures of Pluto and Cerberus recovered from the Ploutonion, and a long frieze showing the labours of Hercules. There is also a small section on local culture and jewellery upstairs. Entry is included with the Hierapolis ticket. Allow an hour.
