Diyarbakır's food is distinct from the kebab-dominated menus of western Turkey. The city is famous for its watermelons (genuinely exceptional in summer), liver stuffed and grilled on skewers (ciğer), and içli köfte — bulgur shells stuffed with minced meat and pistachios. The old bazaar area inside the walls has the best concentration of local eateries; avoid the tourist-facing places near the main gate and go a street further in.
