Abrahamic Family House

David Adjaye's complex of three identical-volume cubes, each holding a place of worship for one of the Abrahamic faiths, opened on Saadiyat Island in 2023. Each is architecturally distinct inside — the mosque oriented to Mecca, the church to the east, the synagogue to Jerusalem — but identical from outside, set on a shared garden plaza.

The intention is a public statement of religious coexistence, not a tourist site, but all three buildings are open to respectful visitors. Free entry; modest dress required for all three. A genuine architectural achievement and a deeply unusual experience.

A story
The three identical cubes — a mosque, a church, and a synagogue, on a single platform on Saadiyat — were commissioned after the 2019 Human Fraternity declaration signed by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar. The synagogue is the first to open in the Arabian Peninsula since the rise of Islam.
