The Corniche

An eight-kilometre seafront promenade arcing along the north-western edge of the city, with a manicured strip of public beach on one side and a dual-carriageway lined with high-rises on the other. It is where Abu Dhabi takes its evening walk: families with strollers, joggers, men in dishdash with their friends, expatriates with their dogs.

The path divides into a pedestrian lane and a separated cycle track; bike rental docks are scattered along the length. The Heritage Village is at the western end, the Marina Mall opposite, the World Trade Center at the eastern. Best between November and March, after sunset year-round.

A story
The 8 km of seafront that defines modern Abu Dhabi was a beach of rough sand and warehouses as recently as the 1990s. The current promenade, with its cycle path, lawns, and beach, was completed in 2002 as part of the urban-renewal push for the new millennium.
