The oldest building in Abu Dhabi, a watchtower erected in the 1760s that grew into the residence of the ruling Al Nahyan family. Expanded through the 19th and early 20th centuries, it was the seat of government until the 1960s. Now restored and open as a heritage museum, it documents the city's transformation from a fishing and pearl-diving settlement to the capital of a wealthy federation. The surrounding cultural district includes craft workshops and exhibition spaces.
