Suwaidi Pearls is the only working pearl farm in the UAE, run by Abdulla Al Suwaidi, the grandson of one of the last commercial pearl divers active before the industry collapsed in the 1930s. The farm sits in the calm waters of the Al Rams creek north of the city, and visits are by guided tour only — book ahead.
The tour leaves by traditional wooden abra boat, includes a demonstration of how oysters are seeded with shell beads, and ends with an opportunity to open a pre-prepared shell yourself. It is honest, small-scale, and a window into a vanished local industry: before oil, RAK and the wider Trucial Coast lived almost entirely off pearling, with men spending months at sea diving naked off wooden booms. The whole experience takes about 90 minutes.
