Dubai is 45 minutes south; Fujairah, on the Indian Ocean side of the Hajar peninsula, makes a long but rewarding day across the mountains. For something quieter, the Omani enclave of Musandam — fjord country with dolphin-watching dhow trips — is a short drive over the border for anyone with the right visa.
