Chorsu Bazaar and Baths

Domed Timurid-era market building in the old trading centre of Shakhrisabz

Chorsu Bazaar is the surviving covered market building of old Shakhrisabz, set where historic streets met inside the trading town. It is smaller and less overwhelming than Uzbekistan's famous bazaars in Tashkent or Samarkand, but the domed brick form gives a good sense of how commerce fitted into a Silk Road city.

Visit it while walking between the main monuments rather than as a separate expedition. The pleasure is in the pause: stepping out of the sun, reading the old street pattern, and seeing Shakhrisabz as a lived trading place rather than only a collection of Timurid showpieces.
