Dorut Tilavat is one of the essential Timurid ensembles in Shakhrisabz, a quieter counterpoint to the huge ruined portal of Ak-Saray. Its name is usually translated as "House of Recitation", and the complex grew around the tomb of Shamsiddin Kulol, the spiritual teacher associated with Timur's family.
The appeal is in the way the ensemble holds several layers of sacred and dynastic history in a compact space: mausoleums, a mosque, blue-tiled domes, and shaded courtyards that still feel connected to everyday religious life. Visit it with Dorus-Saodat and Ak-Saray to understand why Shakhrisabz is more than a quick photograph stop.
